If you are not familiar with what mesothelioma cancers is, you will get more information as you read more. There could be the chances that mesothelioma cancers are new to you, except you have a patient of that disease. Although it is seen as an uncommon cancer, its popularity has increased because of its relationship with asbestos. Malignant mesothelioma cancers is a very terminal disease of the mesothelium of the chest cavity, and it also occurs in the abdomen too. The cause of this malignant mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos, and it takes about 20-50 years to come as the disease.
Early signs of malignant mesothelioma are:
Cough, shortness of breath, loss of weight, and pain in the chest, or abdominal swelling.
Some can actually know how it is to get the mesothelioma cancers.
There are many diseases that are related to asbestos exposure. They are malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer, pleural effusion, asbestosis, pleural plaques and thickening.
Before the year 1975, asbestos fibers were generally used. One may have had the exposure while working in any of the industries that use asbestos. The most common are the workers at mining plants of asbestos, shipyards, milling plants of asbestos, construction industries, automotive repair, fireproofing and heating industries, boiler making, and pipefitting industries.
Chances are that you could have also been exposed by a member of your family, who have worked with an asbestos company, that is if you are sure that you have not worked with any company that uses asbestos. It could have been carried home on clothings, hair, or on the body. Chances also could be that mesothelioma patients were exposed indirectly if you have lived near an asbestos industry.
However, it is possible that mesothelioma patients having malignant mesothelioma, cancer of the lung or any other asbestos-associated diseases have been exposed to asbestos for a very long time, and there is also a possibility that mesothelioma patients having the disease are only exposed for a short period of time.
There are greater chances that developing the disease increases if you are a smoker. However, many people who are mesothelioma patients are usually asked if they were once smokers.
