Loss of appetite
Mesothelioma patients after mesothelioma treatments usually lose their appetite, and afterwards, lose weight. If the case gets too severe, it then known as cachexia. Doctors collectively agree that nutrition plays an important part in mesothelioma patients health.
The cause of loss of weight include low nutrients intake because mesothelioma patients most often cannot or does not want to eat.
Loss of weight can be managed by:
1. Taking small food more frequently;
2. Taking foods with high protein and calorie;
3. Undergoing dietary counseling after treament of mesothelioma cancers.
Anxiety/depression
Anxiety is a symptom that can occur after treatment of mesothelioma cancers. Fear, bothering, or esthesis can lead to long-term overall anxiety, or short, severe panic attacks.
Mesothelioma treatments to address anxiety could include stress management techniques, consultation, assistance from loved ones and regulation of side effects and pain,caused by mesothelioma treatments.
Depression, although less usual, usually affects family members just as the patients also. Depression could be associated with loss of ability to function, insufficient social and monetary assistance, feeling of pain, etc.
Adressing of the mentioned symptoms is acheived by using antidepressant medication, assistance and consultation, managing pain, and managing stress.
Skin problems
There are quite some skin problems that can come with mesothelioma cancers, which includes dryness, rash, itching, skin sores, and ulcers. It is essential to address these cases rapidly so as to reduce discomfort and infection risks.
Dryness can be reduced by putting mineral oil to water for bathing, and by using moisturizers. Drinking a lot of water per day is also vital.
The effects of itching and rash can be reduced by putting baking soda to cool bath water, or by using a cool, damp cloth to itchy parts.
