Mesomark blood test
By Eden Ali | June 20, 2007
In January 2007, the food and drug administration (FDA) endorsed the mesomark test to assist in observing response to mesothelioma treatments in epithelial and bi-phasic malignant mesothelioma patients.
A particular protein, or biomarker, known as the soluble mesothelin-related peptide (SMRP), may be remitted into the blood stream by mesothelioma cancer cells. By measuring the quantity of SMRP in a blood sample, a mesothelioma doctor should be able to further observe mesothelioma patients’s improvement. Depending on the limited amount of data presently accessible, the use of this mesomark test can be very advantageous, but efficiency has not been ascertained at this present time.
The mesomark blood test use for the early mesothelioma diagnosis has not been endorsed yet.
The mesomark blood test has been endorsed as a humanitarian use device (HUD), which means that a mesothelioma doctor must abidde by some particular guidelines to be able to qualify their mesothelioma patients for test. In as much as the mesothelioma doctor is certified, brochures of information will be arranged to be dispersed to every applied patient.
Mesothelioma patients desiring to participate in mesomark testing will be required to summit one or more specimen of blood. The blood specimen will then be dispersed to a national reference laboratory for adequate tests. In partnership with some clinical facility and laboratory data derived by your mesothelioma doctor, jugdments as regards mesothelioma treatments and procedures can then be analysed. It is also your choice to stop testing at any instance that you decide.
The expenses related with the mesomark blood test may not be included under your health insurance policy, therefore, you may be expected to pay for every or some of the expenses of mesothelioma treatments by yourself. It is therefore adviced that you inquire from your insurance company to ascertain which and which coverage is accessible under your insurance policy.
