Mesothelioma clinical trials

Clinical trials is the studies of a promising new or experimental treatments in patients. During the treatment of mesothelioma cancers, the surgeon can propose that one of the mesothelioma patients participate in a clinical trial of a new treatment of mesothelioma. A clinical trial is done only when and if there are reasons to accept that the new treatment of mesothelioma being learned can be of importance to the mesothelioma patients. In clinical trials the treatments being used are mostly discovered to have good advantages.

In clinical trial there are three phases or stages in which a treatment is usually studied.

The objective of Phase I study is to discover the best method of a new treatment of mesothelioma and its pharmacology.

The mesothelioma doctor observes the mesothelioma patients carefully for any dangerous side effects. The mesothelioma research center have tested the treatment in the laboratory and also animal studies, but the side effects in mesothelioma patients are not totally predictable.

Phase II clinical trials decide on the efficiency of the research treatment after safety has been assessed in a Phase I trial. Mesothelioma patients are carefully watched for any anticancer occurence by carefully measuring the mesothelioma cancers sites seen at the start of the trial. While observing patients for reactions, all side effects are accurately noted, recorded and evaluated.

Phase III trials needs the entry of a large numbers of patients; some trials enters thousands of patients. A group of the patients may undergo standard treatment, so that comparisms can be made with the new treatments. The group that undergoes the standard treatment is referred to as the “control group”. For instance, a group of patients can undergo a standard chemotherapy for mesothelioma cancers, while another group of patients can undergo a different kind of chemotherapy.

Patients are carefully observed for side effects, and treatment is stopped when it is noticed.
