The clinical trial process
By | July 6, 2007
If laboratory studies show that a particular drug will be significant in the treatment of an illness, scientist draw a plan known as the clinical trial process. The doctor which is the main researcher draws this plan, with the purpose of study, number of persons participating, eligibility of participation, drugs to be used, necessary medical tests, and information that will be gotten. These clinical trials are financed by people or organisations who seek an improved mesothelioma treatments. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) have financed many clinical trials who have involved a huge number of investigators at many different centers. Participating programs include:
Cancer Centers Program
This is a research-oriented organisation approved by the NCI as a clinical cancer center because of their research performance. The are located all around the nation, playing an important part in mesothelioma cancers research, delivering high mesothelioma treatments, and giving informations to the general public, and professionals alike.
Cooperative Clinical Trials Programs
This research program is made up of a combination of different group of scientists, mesothelioma cancers centers, and mesothelioma doctors that are in the NCI organisation. There is an annual enrolment of about 20,000 mesothelioma patients by these cooperative groups.
The Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP)
This clinical trials program makes its services accessible in local communities by joining community mesothelioma doctors with scientists in mesothelioma cancers center. Local cancer centers partner with bigger centers in order to help mesothelioma doctors give better mesothelioma treatments to patients to avoid traveling a log distance to get mesothelioma treatments.
Safety is the focus the earliest trials (Phase I); subsequent trials (Phase II and III) have their focus on the effectiveness, or ineffectiveness of drug. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can allow pharmaceutical companies to sell drugs only when their drugs have been proved to be safe and efficient in the clinical trials.
